Since 2014, Violetta Borelli has been a member of the Monfalcone Asbestos Association, which she has represented at the Monfalcone Regional Asbestos Commission (AEA) since 2018. Furthermore, she has been collaborating since 2017 with the Italian League for the Fight against Tumours, for which she is in charge of scientific research.
From 2021 to the present, she has fulfilled the role of scientific curator (and contact person for the University of Trieste) of the dissemination project of the Cultural Consortium of Monfalcone, entitled ‘Te lo racconto io l’amianto’ (I’ll tell you about asbestos ) is financed under the cultural activities of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia. In this capacity, he has participated in various dissemination events at secondary schools, cultural initiatives and dissemination conferences organised by local and national associations and municipalities.

RETURN Conference- Trieste: 4-6 March 2025: Scientific and management challenges for a society resilient to environmental risks in a changing climate
Plenary dissemination conference of the RETURN project entitled ‘Scientific and management challenges for a society resilient to environmental risks in a changing climate’ will be held in Trieste from 4 to 6 March at the Stazione Marittima, Molo dei Bersaglieri 3.
The conference will include scientific sessions and thematic round tables in plenary sessions and ‘poster’ sessions in parallel rooms, organised as ‘flash presentations’. We actively participated in the conference, where Dr Alice Marcnato presented her PhD project



Conference on Asbestos-Related Diseases (Associazione Ubaldo Spanghero)
Conference focused on asbestos-related diseases, a topic of great significance for public health and scientific research. During the course of the conference, a series of insightful presentations were delivered by leading experts in the field, including:
✅Prof. Violetta Borelli, who delved into the role of prevention and risk management related to asbestos exposure.
✅Prof. Federica Grosso , who shared the latest therapeutic advancements in mesothelioma treatment and their impact on patients’ quality of life.
✅ Prof. Vincenzo Canzonieri , who presented innovative data on the pathology and new diagnostic perspectives using molecular markers.
✅ Prof. Corrado Negro , who presented “Mesothelioma: Exposure and Epidemiology in Friuli-Venezia Giulia”
These contributions offered a comprehensive view, from prevention to clinical research, highlighting the importance of a multidisciplinary approach.



Projection of the film ‘the man without guilt’ (ICICA Association, Lamezia Terme)
ICICA is a cultural association active in Lamezia Terme, in the south of Italy, committed to redevelopment and divulgation through the promotion of cultural events, including art, cinema, music and much more. Thanks to this collaboration, and with the support of the director Ivan Gergolet and with the magistrate Felice Casson, we actively participated in the projection of the film, enriching it with a debate and a moment of divulgation on our research.

Te Lo Racconto io L’amianto
Te lo racconto io l’Amianto (I’ll tell you about asbestos), a project of the Consorzio Culturale Monfalconese and the Territori Ecomuseo, today strengthened and expanded thanks to the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region. The project aims to open a new season of dialogue and dissemination on the theme of asbestos and asbestos-related diseases to involve the new generations by making young people protagonists and authors of content on the dramatic social and environmental impact of the use of asbestos. From 2019, activities and educational proposals in several high schools in the province of Gorizia. Thanks to the growing number of adhering schools, a travelling exhibition is proposed, the result of a participatory process, which aims to deal with the issue of asbestos to children and with children. This exhibition, also realised in languages, maintains the structure of the educational path proposed over the years, but, thanks to the partner EKO Anhovo from Dolina Soče, is enriched with some information on the impact of the former Anhovo cement factory in the Soča Valley in Slovenia. A project that combines science and civic education, starting with the history of two territories that have suffered a still open wound.

IX Regional Asbestos Conference

The IX Regional Asbestos Conference FVG is an opportunity for the Regional Asbestos Commission to meet Institutions and Citizens, to reflect on the results of the activities provided by the protocol for the health surveillance of former asbestos-exposed people and their families.
The conference is also an opportunity to present and discuss the results of research funded by the Region and carried out by healthcare facilities and universities, which have contributed to improving knowledge of asbestos-related diseases and their pathogenesis, opening up new prospects for treatment.
The conference closed with speeches by associations working in the region to assist former asbestos victims and their families: it is their task to disseminate the stories of people who have been in contact with asbestos, whose memory must be preserved.
The focus was on primary prevention, i.e. asbestos remediation and disposal, to which the 9th Regional Conference devoted a special session.
